Callanish Standing Stones

Before I moved to Britain I thought Stonehenge was the only one. A freak stone circle made by some curious oddballs way back in history. But there are hundreds of these things. Hundreds! There is one about 20 minutes from my house!
And while we were on holiday for a week in the Isle of Lewis, we went to see the Callanish Stone Circles. There are three of them, each on a different hill, within sight of each other. The photos are of the largest one. It has 49 stones, in an inner and outer circle and lines going out to the east, south, north and west. Quite amazing.

I'm told all of the circles line up with the sun...and each other...

Do you think the kids who grow up really close to these circles play druids and pagans their whole lives around them? Must be fun to run to the circles and play around them. I love these mysterious circles.
