Ailsas and Heathers

Since naming our girls, I haven't met a lot of children named Ailsa or Heather. But last week, they were in swimming lessons, and, overhearing me nag them to hurry up and get changed, another mum said, "Do you have and Ailsa and a Heather?" She had a 3 and 1 year old with those names! Wierd.
But then, this week, they are in sports camp. Claire and I were watching them, while waiting to pick them up. Overhearing Claire chattering away, another mum, not last week's mum, said, "Do you have and Ailsa and a Heather?" Hers were 10 and 11!! It has got to be a popular combination for parents all over the country who wanted Scottish names. Who knew?

These were the musings of my Ailsa and Heather from the back of the car yesterday:
Ailsa: I think when I grow up I'd like to be a teacher, but if not a teacher, then I'd like to work in an office, like a secretary because I really like organising things."
Heather: "I want to be like Maria. She has a lot of fun".
Me: "She's a nurse"
Heather: "Oh, is she?"

I think it's so sweet how Ailsa was focusing on the job, but Heather on the life.

What a delightful exchange and too gorgeous but very distinctive personalities. I'd love Ailsa to come and organise my office and Heather to plan my fun time!

Maria DOES have a lot of fun! I love that out of all the careers and people, Heather thought of Maria! That'll keep me smiling all day. Except it also makes me miss her.
Did you let the other moms know the names of the next 2 kids, just in case they have more? Can you start an "Ailsa AND Heather club"? And which name came first for the other 2 parents?
How very curious.

Fascinating post (hmmm...fascinate, fascist; apparently the Latin root fasc means "bundle"; can anyone make sense of this?)

That little conversation is pretty sweet.

Hi Patrick - I like that word asssociation - fascia=connective tissue/bundle; fascio=political group. ?Conclusion the New World Order will require 1st and 2nd girls to be called AILSA and HEATHER
