Splinter

I got a phone call from the school yesterday morning saying Ailsa had got a splinter on the inside of her finger and she said it was very painful, but the staff are not allowed to tackle splinter removal with pins, etc. So I got Claire up from her nap, bundled the wee ones into the car and set off for the school armed with my tweezers, stick pin and alcohol swab. Two minutes, removed the splinter, went home.
I felt like a mug. Should I have told the school to get on with it? Should I have told Ailsa to grin and bear it until she got home from school? She was just carrying on with her schoolwork when I got there. Would they have phoned me if I was a working mum? Or if I lived a 20 minute drive away?

You're a great Mom! I feel badly when kids parents can't come get them and they are REALLY sick and they have to just wait in the office shivering with a fever. If they said it was really bothering her, then it probably was (even if she "got on with her work"). I bet she was glad you came and fixed her!

Wow, at least your teachers care.
Last year I wasn't feeling very well but was desperate to go to school. My Mum took me in and explained to the teacher and said "call me anytime and I can come and pick him up".
Anyway, no phone call, so at home time Mum came to collect me, I was sheet white. Turned out I had swine flu!

well that's what you get from going to a "Victorian school"! A nice, sharp and aged splinter in your finger.
